Thursday Musical
Celebrate the Music
Thursday Musical presented its first classical music performance in Minneapolis on Thursday, November 10, 1892 at 10:30 AM and has been giving fine music programs featuring outstanding local musicians ever since. Our organization is dedicated to offering performance and education opportunities to artists and audiences alike.
We sponsor three distinct music series throughout the season:
The Morning Artist Series
The Thursday Musical Morning Artist Series presents 13 exciting concerts featuring a variety of classical artists performing works by new and well-known composers. Concerts are given at the Bloomington Center for the Arts. Excellent acoustics, comfortable seating and convenient free parking make The Center for the Arts a superb setting for Thursday Musical. It is the perfect way to spend a Thursday morning. Please join us!
Home Programs
Thursday Musical continues our unique tradition of offering fine classical concerts in an intimate home setting. On October 27, 2011 and April 19, 2012, concert hosts will graciously open their homes to Thursday Musical performers and listeners. Four programs are given in four different homes on each date: three beginning with coffee at 10:00 AM and the concert at 10:30 AM, and one beginning with dessert at 7:00 PM and the concert at 7:30 PM. Seating is limited and reservations are required.
Community Concert Series
Thursday Musical serves the community by presenting concerts throughout the Twin Cities. Our artists bring exceptional programs to audiences at performances sponsored by area churches, music series, museums and retirement centers.
Music in Our Schools
brings professional instrumental and vocal artists into the classroom to present exciting musical experiences. Wind and string ensembles and An Introduction to Opera are offered to schools without charge. We also collaborate with the Young People's Symphony Concert Association (YPSCA) by sending our artists to visit area schools to demonstrate and familiarize the students with orchestral instruments and the music they will hear prior to their attending Minnesota Orchestra concerts. The Cy and Paula DeCosse Fund of the Minneapolis Foundation, the Twin Cities Opera Guild, YPSCA and the generous donations of Thursday Musical members provide financial support. These positive educational programs serve to build future audiences and inspire young performers.

Young Artist Program
Thursday Musical also has a rich tradition of providing musical inspiration and education to young audiences. We encourage our young artists by providing opportunities for recital performance and scholarship competition. Up to $20,000 is awarded at the junior high, senior high and college levels each year. The Young Artist Scholarship Competition is open to students grade 7 to age 25 who study music privately. Student members are offered a recital performance and participation in the Young Artist Scholarship Competition. Competition winners are recognized with a monetary award and a featured performance.
The Young Artist Recitals and Winners' Concert are free and open to the public.
