Music in Our Schools

Thursday Musical's Music in Our Schools Program brings Thursday Musical artists into the classroom to present exciting musical experiences. Wind and string quartets demonstrate instrumental ensembles and vocal soloists give An Introduction to Opera. Funding is provided through the generous donations of Thursday Musical members, the Cy and Paula DeCosse Fund of the Minneapolis Foundation, and the Twin Cities Opera Guild.

Thursday Muscial also collaborates with the Young Peoples Symphony Concert Association (YPSCA). Our artists visit area schools to demonstrate and familiarize the students with orchestral instruments and the music they will hear prior to their attending Minnesota Orchestra concerts.

Thursday Musical's Introduction to Opera: Students experience the expressive grandeur of opera from its classical history to its modern adaptations within our everyday culture. Two singers and piano accompanist present a lively program designed to both demystify opera and demonstrate the beauty and emotional power of the human voice. Through demonstration, discussion and class participation, students explore the exciting world of opera. Students learn the basic concepts and elements of the art form, hear many opera examples, with touches of props and costumes, and have the opportunity to become opera singers themselves. They participate in vocal warm-ups, question and answer, and learn a few important Italian words. Bravo! Bravissimo!!

These positive educational programs serve to build future audiences and inspire young performers. If your school does not normally have funds to bring in outside educational programs, please contact us to schedule a performance, which is free-of-charge to the hosting school.
