Flutist Jennifer Kennard and pianist Mary Jo Gothmann will perform Debussy’s Bilitis and Schubert’s Introduction, Theme, and Variation on Trockne Blumen on Sunday, February 12 at 3:30 PM as part of Concordia University’s Faculty Artist Series. In addition to the performance, Dr. Kennard will also speak about the compositions and the poems that inspired both pieces. Although the poems are not based on stereotypical Valentine’s Day sentiment, they are never-the less searing love poems. Both Schubert’s and Debussy’s compositions dramatically reflect the pathos, passion, and atmosphere created by the original poetry.
